What touched my heart the most was that the Uncle and Grandma took care of Ohiyesa when they thought his father had been killed. My Grandma took care of me when I was a child and to this day I look to elders for companionship and wisdom. And I am in my seventies! Most young people today do not think this way. The way of life of the Native Americans was recognized too late as being beneficial to humans and environment alike. We now know that we are destroying our beautiful earth and the simple explanations of the customs of the natives in Mr. Eastman's book bring that realization ever sharper. It is a very easy and enjoyable read. Of course we need progress, and Ohiyesa's father realized this when he sent the little boy to school. It was wonderful to read how he tried so very hard to help his people after he was educated.I would recommend this book to all.

Very interesting reading. I have not finished the book yet, but I am enjoying it very much. I will recommend it to my friends.
Much smaller than the hardcover I read as a child. Great, true, story.
Fascinating story I came across while researching my lineage. Chapter 5 has the most exciting description of a late 1809’s lacrosse game! This is youth- oriented.
